We're thrilled to announce Dr. Jane Freedman, Director of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Vanderbilt University, has accepted our invitation as a keynote speaker for our luncheon, held in conjunction with the AHA meeting in New Orleans, LA. Dr. Freedman will provide insights, and lead a lively discussion, of Veracity of Medical Research.

We will be gathering on Sunday, November 9 from 12:00 - 2:00 PM CT at the Calcasieu, located at 930 Tchoupitoulas Street. The venue is steps from the convention center, and will provide a welcome respite from conference activities.

ABOUT DR. FREEDMAN
Jane Freedman, MD, is the Gladys Parkinson Stahlman Professor of Cardiovascular Research and Chair of the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), and Physician-in-Chief of Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital.
Dr. Freedman joined Vanderbilt in 2021 as Director of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and Physician-in-Chief of the Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute. She served in these positions until she was appointed interim chair of the Department of Medicine in 2023. In December 2024, she was named the tenth chair of VUMC’s Department of Medicine.

In addition to her role as chair, she oversees two research programs. The Freedman- Tanriverdi Lab examines the role of immunity, infection, and inflammation on atherothrombotic disease. The second laboratory, the High-Throughput Biomarker Core, uses high-throughput, nano-chip, and RNA-seq technologies to study gene expression and provide large scale transcriptomic and proteomic translational data for a wide range of clinical and translational projects.

Dr. Freedman is currently Editor-in-Chief for Circulation Research and President of the Association of University Cardiologists, and has served as the Chair of the National American Heart Association Peer Review Committee. She has extensive mentoring experience and has been the principal investigator of three T32 training grants. She is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the Association of American Physicians, and the American Clinical and Climatological Association.
